Spring Beauty Trends You’ll Want To Try Now

Popular Spring Time Beauty Trends

Spring in southern Louisiana means lots of things—festivals, snowballs, crawfish boils, and Abita Strawberry perhaps chief among them. But for the beauty experts at Paris Parker, it means taking a look back at the Spring/Summer 2017 Fashion Shows to rediscover all the hair and makeup inspiration they sent into the world. Read on for our take on beauty trends that made so many appearances, they’re sure to become warm weather mainstays.

1. HAIR TRENDS

NATURAL GLAM

Elle put a name to this vibe when describing the models’ slicked-back high ponytails at the Brandon Maxwell show, and not only do we think they nailed it—we think they were onto a serious seasonal trend. The descriptor also applies to the glossy waves at Christian Siriano, the long, sleek and straight styles at Victoria Beckham, and the classic blowouts at Cushnie et Ochs.

The natural glam look is for the girl who knows her way around the best styling tools and products, but chooses to harness that knowledge only to look sleek, polished, and perpetually put-together—never overly fussy or like she spent hours in front of the mirror.

Get the look: Reach for smoothing, humidity-repelling products to style (try the Smooth Infusion line), and keep Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil on-hand to smooth flyaways on the go. Go easy on the makeup and super-chic on the sartorial decisions.

ARTFULLY UNDONE

Do you know that girl in school who could sweep her hair up, secure it with a pencil, and somehow look like she belonged on a Milan runway? This look is pure her. The hair equivalent of “oh, this old thing?”, we can’t help but admire the unexpected pairing of utilitarian function and laissez-faire charm. For inspiration, look to the sleek Tibi ponytails unexpectedly secured with belts or the casually looped buns at Josie Natori. For more ponytail inspiration check out Twist Me Pretty.

Get the look: Help your hair maintain just the right level of undoneness with a light hold hairspray (hello, Aveda Air Control) or products that give hair extra grip, like Control Paste or Shampure Dry Shampoo.

AIR DRIED TEXTURE

Permission to part with your blow dryer, granted—at least every now and then. Recently, runway hair trends have veered away from one-size-fits-all uniformity and toward letting models’ unique hair types shine. At Tanya Taylor, the show’s entire hair aesthetic was inspired by a snap-in in which one of the models was sporting her natural air-dried texture. (Talk about Jazz Fest friendly.)

Get the look: The key to making air-dried hair work for you is identifying your areas of weakness and proactively fighting them. Thin hair that falls flat? Apply Pure Abundance Hair Potion, form twists with your hair, then let it dry. Dry hair prone to frizz? Smooth Infusion Nourishing Styling Creme seals in moisture and locks out frizz. Your Paris Parker stylist can point you toward more products that can help you achieve exactly the casual, easy look you’re going for.

2. MAKEUP TRENDS

POPS OF COLOR

This spring, the beauty forecast is calling for plentiful pops of color against otherwise understated makeup. The result feels fresh, artistic, and just right for warming days—look to the poppy-hued lips at Dolce & Gabbana or the teal eyeliner at Christian Siriano for proof. Bonus points if you coordinate your manicure à la the models at Blugirl, whose punchy tangerine nails paired perfectly with the sheer wash of color on their eyelids.

Get the look: This spring, we’re going bold on our lips with Nourish-Mint Smoothing Lip Color in Pink Zinnia and on our eyes with Petal Essence Single Eye Color in Elderberry (a cool, smoky violet), both of which come from Aveda’s Spring/Summer makeup collection, Solstice Bloom.

GRAPHIC EYELINER

A simple swipe of black eyeliner will always have its place, but this spring, we’re ushering in eye makeup in every color and shape you can dream up—think darts of neon pink at Wunderkind, oversized cat eyes at Fendi and right angles at Sophia Webster give new meaning to the whole “window to your soul” concept. If you’ve perfected your winged liner and are ready for a new challenge, this is the trend for you.

Get the look: Fans of a traditional eyeliner pencil should try Aveda’s Petal Essence Eye Definer, which has a creamy, easy-to-apply consistency and is even available in unexpected shades like Gypsum Gold and Wild Indigo. You can also use Color Options Eye Transformer to transform your favorite powder eye shadow into a vibrant liquid liner. (Read: your eye makeup collection just doubled.)

PRECISION GLOW

There are so many things we love about the dewy trend—not the least of which is that come spring, it’s hard not to look dewy when wandering around New Orleans. This season, however, metallic sheen and touches of luminosity are being applied selectively, rather than all over. (See: a perfect sliver of highlighter in the Cupid’s bow at DKNY or silver eyeliner and shimmery cheekbones at Asli Polat.) The look is a subtle sidestep away from the no-makeup vibes highlighters are often used to achieve.

For a clean line, use Color Transformers to intensify your favorite neutral, shimmery eye shadow—you’ll be able to apply it like a liquid liner. Or, to cover more area, apply the shadow on top of freshly moisturized skin, then blend with your fingers. (Try Petal Essence Single Eye Color in Rare Lily, a cool, creamy beige.)
